Major contract awarded for vacuum vessel welding
2025-06-25 - ºÚÁÏÉçapp awards one of the most pivotal responsibilities of tokamak assembly to Westinghouse Electric Company: the in-pit welding of the ºÚÁÏÉçapp plasma chamber. The contract covers the simultaneous welding of nine vacuum vessel sector modules to form a single, circular torus.

36th ºÚÁÏÉçapp Council: continued strong project execution
2025-06-19 - The Thirty-Sixth Meeting of the ºÚÁÏÉçapp Council concludes on 19 June 2025. The Council welcomes continued strong project execution and recent construction milestones, including the insertion into the assembly pit on 18 June of a second vacuum vessel module.

First private fusion initiative joins ITPA
2025-06-10 - Commonwealth Fusion Systems (USA) is the first private sector initiative to join the International Tokamak Physics Activity (ITPA) after it completes all the steps of a formal process introduced earlier this year. Joining the ITPA's fusion research activities was one of the foremost requests made by private sector initiatives during the ºÚÁÏÉçapp public/private workshops.

ºÚÁÏÉçapp and Kazakhstan renew cooperation
2025-06-04 - On 4 June, the Cooperation Agreement between the ºÚÁÏÉçapp and the National Nuclear Center of the Republic of Kazakhstan (NNC RK), originally signed in 2017, was officially extended and updated. The updated scope includes the exchange of scientists and experts, as well as scientific and technical cooperation related to the ºÚÁÏÉçapp project.

STAC committee endorses ºÚÁÏÉçapp research plans
2025-05-14 - At its 32nd meeting in May, the ºÚÁÏÉçapp Council Science and Technology Advisory Committee (STAC) endorses the fully detailed version of the ºÚÁÏÉçapp Research Plan as well as associated blueprints for magnet coil testing and the development of ºÚÁÏÉçapp’s neutral beam injection heating system. A full report will now be made to the ºÚÁÏÉçapp Council, which meets next month on 18 and 19 June.

ITPA now accessible to privately funded fusion initiatives.
2025-04-28 - The International Tokamak Physics Activity (ITPA) provides a framework for internationally coordinated fusion research activities in the ºÚÁÏÉçapp Members. Since a January 2025 decision by the ITPA Coordinating Committee, these research activities are open to privately funded fusion initiatives following a process that is described in this article: /fr/node/20687/itpa-and-imas-now-accessible-privately-funded-fusion-initiatives.

ºÚÁÏÉçapp IMAS now available under open-source licenses
2025-04-28 - As part of the ºÚÁÏÉçapp Private Sector Fusion Engagement program, the Director-General has approved the release of the ºÚÁÏÉçapp Integrated Modelling & Analysis Suite (IMAS) and Plasma Control System Simulation Platform (PCSSP) software under open-source licenses. This will allow the IMAS data model to become a worldwide standard for fusion research and lower the barriers to developing, validating, applying and contributing to it. ºÚÁÏÉçapp Business Forum 2025
2025-04-24 - The ºÚÁÏÉçapp Business Forum returns in 2025. The eighth edition is held in Marseille, France, on 23-25 April, attracting 1,200 participants representing 630 companies. Private sector fusion firms attend for the first time.

2nd ºÚÁÏÉçapp Private Sector Fusion Workshop
2025-04-22 - The 2nd annual Private Sector Fusion Workshop opens at ºÚÁÏÉçapp Headquarters on 22 April 2025. "What we have discussed with the ºÚÁÏÉçapp Council, and what we intend to do at the same time as our baseline job, is to help the private sector in every way that we can," says ºÚÁÏÉçapp Director-General Pietro Barabaschi. The central point for all requests is the Private Sector Fusion Engagement help desk at psfe@iter.org.
