A facility for divertor integration
2026-06-15 - At the divertor integration facility in Qinshan, China, the elements of the ºÚÁÏÉçapp divertor will come together to form the "divertor cassette assemblies" that will be installed at ºÚÁÏÉçapp.
Divertor inner vertical targets advance in Europe
2026-06-04 - Fusion for Energy contractor Research Instruments has begun assembling tungsten-armoured plasma-facing units onto the steel structures of divertor inner vertical targets. ©RI
First Russian gyrotrons installed
2026-05-28 - On the top floor of the Radiofrequency Building, in the gyrotron hall, the first three gyrotrons procured by Russia have been installed. Gyrotrons are the wave-producing devices of the electron cyclotron heating system.
A celebration at SIMIC for the first divertor cassettes
2026-05-27 - Four completed divertor cassettes (one is uncovered in this photo and three are packed) are ready for shipment. Late May, representatives from Fusion for Energy, SIMIC and the ºÚÁÏÉçapp gather at the SIMIC workshop to mark the achievement in the presence of Italian authorities. ©SIMIC
China completes correction coil deliveries
2026-05-22 - Two side correction coils arrived in April and another two in May, completing all deliveries. Eighteen correction coils will play a critical role in ensuring the stability and precision of the fusion machine’s magnetic environment.
Correction coils: inspection after transport
2026-05-06 - Shortly after a side correction coil arrives from China, teams on site conduct inspections to ensure that no damage has occurred during transport.
European contractor completes first-of-a-kind beam source
2026-05-05 - The European Domestic Agency Fusion for Energy and its contractor ALSYMEX have completed the assembly and factory tests of the MITICA beam source, composed of a radio frequency ion source and a seven-grid extractor and accelerator. This is the central component of the MITICA testbed at the ºÚÁÏÉçapp Neutral Beam Facility in Padua, Italy—a full-scale prototype of ºÚÁÏÉçapp's heating neutral beam injector.
Developing tooling for initial blanket assembly
2026-04-27 - A specific set of robotic tools is being developed in Japan to support the initial assembly of ºÚÁÏÉçapp blanket components. Designed to operate within tight space constraints, these tools can grip, fasten, tighten, weld, and cut with exceptional precision.
US completes central solenoid procurement package
2026-04-27 - US ºÚÁÏÉçapp has completed final deliveries for the central solenoid, the world’s most powerful pulsed superconducting magnet. Assembly is underway at the ºÚÁÏÉçapp site.
Europe completes another vacuum vessel sector
2026-04-15 - Vacuum vessel sector #3 has been completed in Europe by the AMW consortium (Ansaldo Nucleare, Westinghouse, Walter Tosto) and will soon set sail from the port of Ortona, in Italy. Once delivered to ºÚÁÏÉçapp, it will be the fourth European sector on site and the eighth overall.
Europe completes first divertor cassette body
2026-03-18 - The European Domestic Agency Fusion For Energy and the SIMIC S.p.A./CNIM consortium have completed the manufacturing, inspection and test of the first divertor cassette body. Fifty-four of these 5-tonne components form the backbone of the ºÚÁÏÉçapp divertor, located at the bottom of the reactor and designed to manage extreme heat and particle exhaust during plasma operations.
MITICA beam source: now assembled at the factory
2026-03-12 - 20 European companies have been involved with the manufacturing work to produce the beam source for MITICA, a testbed that will trial the full-scale (1 MV) heating neutral beam injector at the ºÚÁÏÉçapp Neutral Beam Test Facility in Italy. The beam source has been fully assembled and is in testing at Alsymex.
Dual-hinged gravity support
2026-02-16 - Nine gravity supports like this one, supplied by Korea, will support the vacuum vessel sectors from below. Their dual-hinged design allows for a slight expansion of the vacuum vessel in the radial direction.
Europe has completed a third sector
2026-02-02 - Vacuum vessel sector #9, shown here at the Westinghouse Mangiarotti factory in Monfalcone, Italy, is ready for transport to ºÚÁÏÉçapp. Sector #9 will be the third sector delivered by the European Domestic Agency. ©Westinghouse
Europe is developing a "vehicle" for a specialized task
2026-01-28 - This semi-automated platform fabricated in Europe is designed to carry ºÚÁÏÉçapp port plugs from the Assembly Hall to their positions in the upper and equatorial ports surrounding the vacuum vessel during first-phase assembly. Recent tests confirmed it can negotiate ºÚÁÏÉçapp-like gallery corridors while carrying an 80-tonne dummy load on its back. ©Solving
High-tech waves
2026-01-16 - A gyrotron is essentially an energy-delivery device. Once generated in the magnetic tube, high-frequency waves travel the length of a wave guide into an antenna that directs the beam into the plasma. The effect of the high-frequency wave on the electrons in the plasma is to accelerate their motion—another way of saying that electrons are "heated" by the high frequency beam. Two gyrotrons delivered by the Japanese Domestic Agency have already been installed at ºÚÁÏÉçapp.
European industry tackles first wall panels
2026-01-09 - Suppliers Alsymex and Fusion Business Leadership (Leading/Empresarios Agrupados) have been entrusted by the European Domestic Agency with the production of 27 first-wall panels each. After years of development, series production lines are up and running and teams are focusing on shaping the structure of the panels, made of a stainless steel-copper alloy. ©FBL-F4E
